The essence of Psychodynamic Psychotherapy is for the client and the therapist to meet and build a 'therapeutic' relationship, This is in order to understand and interpret the underlying issues causing the distress, anxiety or behavioural problems. Personal contact is an important feature of nearly every style of psychotherapy, alternative therapies and counselling.
Although I would always urge a client to see a therapist or counsellor in person, I appreciate that in some cases personal contact is not always possible. There may be geographical or mobility obstacles or the fear of personal contact may itself be the issue to be resolved.
In certain cases therefor, I do offer an on-line counselling facility. In order to do this effectively, I have to ask you a number of questions so that I may assess and understand your problem. The procedure is therefor as follows:
You book one or more on-line sessions with me using the booking option on the left of the screen.
When I receive the request I will send you a confirming e-mail which will include a series of questions which I would ask you to answer as honestly and fully as you can. The form includes space for you to explain your concerns and problems and how you feel I can help you.
Once you have returned the form to me and I have reviewed it I will send you my thoughts and suggestions on how to proceed.
On-line therapy may a suitable choice if you fall into one or more of the following categories:
You have difficulty leaving your home due to disability, caregiving responsibilities, or some other reason
You live in an area where there are few or no qualified helping professionals such as social workers, psychologists, and psychiatrists available to do psychotherapy or counselling
You live in a community or work in a field in which it may be important not to reveal that you are in therapy or the issues that you need to talk about
You are too busy to spend time commuting to a therapist's office
Your schedule varies from week to week so that you need scheduling flexibility in order to commit to therapy
You are deaf or hard-of-hearing, therefor typing with your therapist is the most direct method for getting therapy
You are uncomfortable around people, but think you might be able to open up in a chat room with a caring therapist
You are in one of the services and want safe and confidential access to support with stresses and family issues
You and your spouse or partner want to work as a couple on your marriage or relationship, but you are currently located in different communities or countries
